Youth Festival 2025

Youth Festival 2025

This academic blog, developed under the guidance of Dr. and Prof. Dilip Barad, offers a reflective overview of the 33rd Inter-College Youth Festival Bhav Gunjan, organized by Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University. Held from October 8 to 11, 2025, the event was coordinated by the Department of Physical Education and Cultural Activities.

The festival, titled “Bhav Gunjan” meaning “The Echo of Emotions” transcended the scope of a conventional university gathering. It emerged as a grand celebration of artistic expression, intellectual engagement, and cultural vibrancy. Over four spirited days, the MKBU campus came alive with youthful enthusiasm, capturing the true spirit of Yuvaani ka Mahotsav, a tribute to the creative force and dynamism of young minds.

"Here I've attached the brochure and schedule for your reference."

Kala-Yatra

The festival began with great zest through the Kala-Yatra (Artistic Procession) on October 8, which journeyed from Shamaldas Arts College to J.K. Sarvaiya College. More than a ceremonial march, it evolved into a vivid spectacle of social consciousness, as students from multiple colleges staged compelling performances addressing urgent contemporary concerns.

Participants confronted critical issues such as gender-based violence, advocating for justice and societal reform. They critiqued the shortcomings of the current education system, highlighting concerns about commercialization and rigidity, while others reflected on the psychological impact of social media, revealing how virtual interactions often erode authentic human relationships. Alongside these interventions, several groups showcased the cultural wealth of Gujarat its language, traditions, and heritage creating a meaningful balance between social awareness and cultural celebration.

My Experience as a Volunteer at Bhav Gunjan

Volunteering at Bhav Gunjan was an immensely rewarding and memorable experience. Working behind the scenes allowed me to witness the festival’s vibrancy, creativity, and collaborative spirit from a unique vantage point. Being part of the organizing team helped me understand the depth of commitment, coordination, and teamwork required to execute an event of this scale.

From guiding participants during their performances and managing stage timings to communicating with the cultural committee, every responsibility contributed to my understanding of leadership and accountability. The performers’ enthusiasm and the volunteers’ mutual support fostered an atmosphere of positivity and respect.

This journey contributed significantly to my personal growth. It strengthened my communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills, while also giving me the confidence to take initiative in dynamic environments. More importantly, it enhanced my appreciation for art and culture, as I observed how creative expression unites people across differences of college, background, and language. Being part of Bhav Gunjan taught me that volunteering is more than service it is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a collective cultural celebration and to become part of something larger than oneself.

Conclusion

Volunteering at Bhav Gunjan was far more than an event duty it was a pivotal personal and collective experience. It nurtured my growth and gave me a seat at a table where youth voices, cultural expressions, and social reflections converged.

Youth festivals like this do more than showcase talent they forge community, foster creative confidence, and reaffirm our shared cultural identity. I feel deeply grateful to have been a part of this festival both as a volunteer and as someone who witnessed youth culture in its full vibrancy.

Exploring the Festival Beyond Volunteering: Music, Dance, and Art

Once my responsibilities at the Quiz event were completed, I finally had the chance to immerse myself in the other performances taking place at the Bhavgunjan Youth Festival. This exploration revealed the impressive diversity of artistic expression that students from different departments brought to the event.

My first stop was the Orchestra performance. The hall was alive with melody and coordination as students performed with remarkable confidence. Their command over instruments, sense of rhythm, and musical unity created a lively and inspiring setting. What stood out to me was the passion with which each performer engaged with their music every composition reflected hours of practice and a genuine love for the art form.

I then moved on to the Creative Choreography, which turned out to be one of the most intellectually engaging parts of the festival. The dance groups presented narratives rooted in contemporary social concerns and innovative reinterpretations of mythology.

One memorable choreography reimagined Draupadi in a contemporary context, drawing attention to how women today continue to confront injustice and harassment. By blending myth with modern reality, the performance sent a powerful message about the continuing struggle for gender equality.

Another group celebrated the cultural vibrancy of Gujarat. Using energetic Garba steps and traditional movements, the dancers beautifully captured the spirit of pride, devotion, and togetherness that defines Gujarati culture and festivals.

A third performance centred on Lord Krishna, using expressive gestures and fluid movement to portray his divine charisma and the values associated with him. The choreography was visually striking its emotional depth, synchronization, and storytelling held the audience’s complete attention.

Each of these performances demonstrated how dance can weave together mythology, regional culture, and current social issues, creating an artistic language that resonates beyond verbal expression.

Experiencing the Fine Arts Exhibition

On the final day, after the Purnahuti Karyakram (closing ceremony), I visited the Fine Arts Exhibition, where all visual-art entries were displayed for public viewing. The exhibition featured a vibrant collection of works including paintings, posters, collages, clay models, cartoons, and installations.

The diversity of themes was impressive some artworks used humour and satire to comment on contemporary issues, while others conveyed emotional depth, cultural identity, or moral reflection. The creative use of colour, form, and symbolism revealed the artists’ ability to translate abstract ideas into compelling visual compositions.

Moving through the gallery, I was struck by how powerfully visual art can communicate meaning. The exhibition served as a reminder that creativity has the capacity to stir thought, provoke awareness, and transform imagination into something tangible and impactful.
